Heat pump shelter: everything you need to know to protect your heat pump

A heat pump is a device designed to be placed outdoors. However, it requires regular maintenance and attention.
It is therefore ideal to create a shelter to protect it from the weather, prying eyes and other incidents. In this article, you will find the best tips on how to do this without further ado.
Criteria to consider
When creating the cover for your heat pump, you must ensure that it does not prevent air from circulating around the motor. If it does, it may not only increase the power consumption of your unit, but also reduce its performance or even damage it.
Therefore, before designing it, it is best to measure its width, height and depth. Then adjust the latter by 5 to 10 cm to avoid problems. Also consider easy access for maintenance.
Materials required
You should know that it is possible to build it from exotic woods or even reclaimed wood such as pallets. Moreover, they are known for their great capacity to resist climatic conditions.
With a little treatment, it is the perfect material! On the other hand, there are also stainless steels or aluminium that can be used for such a production. However, you will have to call in a specialist company to carry out laser cutting. This is more expensive than the first option.
The different options for housing a heat pump
There are a number of options available to you, including the construction of a wooden box and the creation of a roof.
Making a wooden box
This is an excellent option for DIY enthusiasts. Moreover, it is always fun to do a self-build. To do this, saw the wood and make four frames according to the dimensions of the heat pump. If you have opted for pallets, you must first dismantle them.
Then screw the slats together, leaving regular gaps for air circulation, or install grids in the sides instead. Then build the top with plywood or bituminous shingles and join the sides together. After that, make a foot of a few centimetres to avoid it being in direct contact with the ground. Finally, protect it with paint. This will give it a nice look.
Creating a roof
Apart from making a wooden box, you can also create a roof. This will protect it from rain, snow and ultraviolet rays. You can choose to fix it to a wall or place it directly on your unit.
It can be made of tiles or PVC depending on your choice. It is also necessary to make a custom order and have a professional install it if you think you are not able to do it
This procedure is quite complicated and requires a good command of tools. The total cost is around $150, but this depends on the style, size and quality of the roof.
